A [♥Akime] -- Pt III

A.I.S.H.I.T.E.R.U

Chapter 1 ♥ Akime ; Afraid

Part III

Akime stared at the open window as she observed the lilies outside swayed in the rhythm of the cold winter wind. Then, the door clicked open. Akime turned and saw an old lady with white hair and a pair of caring hazel brown orbs.

“Obaasan.” Akime called out as she rushed to help her.

“Akime…” Her grandmother smiled softly as she greeted her injured granddaughter. Akime smiled when she heard her grandmother acknowledged her. She gently held her grandmother by her elbow and led her down the quiet corridor and into a room where about 3 beds were laid on each side of the quadrangular room.

“Obaasan, what do you want to eat?” Akime asked as she helped her grandmother up her hospital bed where on the white fluffy mattress were a few white pillows.

“Chawanmushi…” Her grandmother croaked. Akime nodded and walked out of the ward and headed for the canteen.

“Akime?” She heard somebody called her. Akime turned and saw a man in his mid thirties wearing a white coat.

“I thought I saw you, I cannot believe that this beautiful lady is actually you.” The platinum blonde haired chuckled. Akime smiled showing her pearly white teeth. But suddenly, the doctor’s laughter became quiet.

“How are you?” the doctor asked a little solemn.

“You did not call me out just to ask me this, am I right?” Akime asked as she stared at the doctor.

“Let’s talk. We need to talk.” The doctor said as he held her by her elbow and led her to the side of the corridor to beside a frameless window where outside, the trees were covered in a blanket of glittering snow. Children could be seen frolicking in the snow as their parents left the hospital door. Some carried joy along with them as joy shone off their face, while others carried along dread.

“What’s wrong?” Akime gulped as she prepared her mental state for the uncertain blow. The doctor looked at her and sighed.

“Akime, I only got bad news.” The doctor sighed as he shut his eyelids.

“Akime, your grandmother is not responding to the chemotherapy.” The doctor broke the news. Dread washed over Akime covering in her with fear and agony that nobody could ever put down to words.

“So…?” Akime asked trying her best to get her act together as the bad news slowly seeped into her mind registering the outcomes.

“So, chemo is no longer an option…” The doctor continued.

“So, you are just going to let my grandma suffer in pain and you just sit by the side and do nothing about it?!” Akime yelled as she faced the doctor. Her orange orbs blazing. The doctor looked at Akime with distraught to see her in this state. “I’m leaving.” Akime said coldly as she walked past him.

“Look, Akime, there is no other options! Your grandmother is too old for the operation. The risk of her having complications is high!” The doctor finally admitted.

“Then try… just try…” Akime broke down as tears streamed down her cheeks.

“The problem is that… Akime, no doctor in this hospital is willing to operate on your grandmother.” The doctor admitted.

“Than you do it!”

“I’m sorry Akime, I’m not in this line… I’m so sorry…” The doctor apologized with his head hung low. Akime stared at the doctor with tears in her eyes. She looked up in effort to stop the tears from falling.

“I… I need to go… Obaasan asked me to buy Chawanmushi for her… if I take so long… she will suspect that something is wrong…” Akime stuttered as she dried her tears with her sleeves. The doctor nodded and stretched out his hand offering a hand shake.

“Akime, all the best.” The doctor wished.

“You too.” Akime smiled as she received the handshake. She smiled her best before turning and leaving the doctor alone to watch the snow scene.

// That day, the snow scene brought tears to my eyes. //

“Obaasan.” Akime forced a smile as she entered the room. She stopped when she saw a lad seating beside the ward’s bed talking to her grandmother. Carefully, she stalked up to the bed.

“Akime.” Her grandmother smiled as she reached out to receive the Chawanmushi. “Your friend is so kind. He came to visit me.” Akime’s grandmother complimented as she pat his shoulder.

“Hey.” The lad greeted as he stood up and turned. Akime, shocked, stood rooted to the ground.

“Sui…” Akime cried as she hugged him. Tears unable to be reserved anymore fell like how rain fell on the dry land after a drought.

“Akime… why are you crying?” Sui asked full of concern as he slowly rhythmic pat her back. Akime shook her head in reply and just buried her head in Sui’s shoulder.

“Okay… Hush…” Sui comforted softly as he squeezed her.

“Aki…” Akime’s grandmother started but suddenly broke into frantic gasps of air.

“Obaasan!!” Akime yelled as she rushed to her grandmother’s side.

“Doctor! Call the doctor!” Akime yelled anxiously. Soon, a whole army of whites came flooding around the bed.

“Obaasan!” Akime yelled as she insisted on being with her frail grandmother.

“Miss, you can’t come in.” A nurse finally snapped as she shove Akime to Sui. Sui grabbed Akime and led her away.

“Let me go! Let me go!” Akime squirmed as she struggled to escape from Sui’s grip.

“STOP IT AKIME!” Sui bellowed snapping Akime into reality. Akime felt tears welled up but she sniffed and controlled it from falling.

“Its okay…” Sui whispered soothingly as she brought her head to his shoulder. “Cry it out. You will feel better…” Sui prompted Akime as he saw Akime controlling her tears. Akime did not react to Sui’s advice but slowly, sobs could be heard. At that time, Sui was really in a state of helplessness. He stared desperately at the sobbing Akime with no bright ideas to cheer up the depressed youth but to let her spill out her sorrow.

// I can’t protect you… forgive me… //

Akime sat down on the white plastic chair. Then, Sui arrived at the table with a black plastic tray. Being balanced perfectly on the tray was a cup of cold tea with a wedge of lemon as a décor and a cup of ice milk tea. Sui placed the cup filled with ice lemon tea in front of Akime and watched as she poked the lemon with her straw.

“What’s wrong?” Sui started as he took a sip of his beverage. Akime stopped poking her lemon and stared at the table top. The table atmosphere suddenly became very dark and heavy.

“Hey…” Sui prodded Akime. Akime looked up and shocked Sui with her tears.

“O…oi… Akime… why are you crying?” Sui asked Akime as he passed Akime a sheet of tissue. Akime ignored the offer of the tissue and continued to cry.

“Sui… what should I do?” Akime finally asked. Sui left his seat and sat on the seat beside Akime and looked at Akime.

“Do? What do you need to do?” Sui asked as he placed his hand over Akime’s small shoulder. Akime turned and looked at Sui with her beady eyes. Akime shook her head and looked back at her lemon.

“Obaasan… she… she has lung cancer.” Akime admitted as she gripped her gray skirt tightly as tears fell wetting her skirt.

“Obaasan… she… I…” Akime cried helplessly.

“You have me… you still have me…” Sui whispered encouragingly as he hugged the sobbing Akime.

// Sometimes, you do not need to be literally hurt to feel pain… //

Akime sat on her bed with her legs crossed. She took out a porcelain pig like structure from under her bed and held it at a height before releasing it. A loud crash sounded and bounced off the walls which wallpapers were peeling. Akime then looked down into the debris of what used to be a piggy bank in a mixture of notes and coins. Akime then bent down and carefully pick up the coins made of nickel and a few crumply notes and placed it on her bed and started to separate the notes and coins before counting them.

“Just 500,000dollars more…” Akime sighed as she flopped down onto her pillow. She closed her eyes and something reflected back. She shot her eyes open and saw Nicol looking down at her.

“I can’t believe you can still relax life while he is working so hard.” Nicol sighed as he shook his head disapprovingly. Akime looked at Nicol and shook her head indicating how blur she is in regards of what he is talking.

“Oh come on! Don’t act like you don’t know what I’m talking about!” Nicol grumbled as he sat on Akime’s bed.

“Really? How can I know something that I already do not know?” Akime sneered. Nicol sighed upon hearing Akime’s reason.

“Do you not know that the guy who visited you at the hospital…” Nicol started.

“Sui?” Akime guessed. Nicol shrugged and continued. Akime felt her heart skip a beat. “You what?” Akime prompted Nicol to repeat his sentence. Nicol stared at Akime with that ‘yeah-its-true’ look.

“No… Its not possible… I saw him just yesterday… he can’t be…” Akime stuttered out but Nicol’s look shot down Akime’s hope.

“No!” Akime yelled as she shot out of the room and ran out of the house. Nicol stood by the window and looked as Akime shot down the street.

// This scratches are nothing compared to what you are going through… //

/ KNOCK /

Akime stood infront of a big brown door as she waited for the door to be open. Then, she heard a click and slowly the door flung open. Akime stared at the door and felt tears drip.

“A…Akime…” Sui stuttered as he saw Akime standing infront of him. His face was half in bandage half buried in bruises. Akime gulped.

“Sui, what happened?” Akime asked controlling her feelings.

“Oh… I…I bumped into a bouncer and he got mad and beat me up” Sui laughed.

“Sui, don’t lie…” Akime whispered. Sui immediately tense up.

“Break up… I think this is for the best of us…” Akime sniffled.

“Shut up…” Sui whispered. Akime smiled and turned. “Akime!” Akime heard Sui bellows but she did not turn back. She knew that the very moment she turn back, she will lose this waging war and go back to Sui.

As Akime walked down she started to feel her sole become sore. Akime bent down and looked at her red feet filled with cuts. She felt warmth suddenly spread through her cold body as a heavy wool jacket fell onto her back. Then, she saw notes fluttering down from the sky. Startled, she turned and saw Sui.

“Today, I’m your customer. So serve me.”
